Rat/Mice Treatments

Now the summer is coming to an end and the nights are drawing in we are beginning to see the wet and colder weather. This is not only unfavourable to us but also to rodents. This is the time of year that Rats and mice begin to get closer to buildings and structures. They must be controlled as they are potentially harmful to human health not only due to the fact that their urine and feces contain harmful pathogens and some can carry Leptospirosis. Once they find their way into buildings and structures themselves, they can cross contaminate food and water products they also chew and the they gnaw away at structures and wiring. This then becomes a fire risk with exposed wires.

There are things that you can look for to do at home to try and prevent and dissuade rodent behaviour on your property:

  1. Look for any holes or gaps externally (i.e. around pipes, airbricks, cracks and crevices) these should all be sealed to deny any ingress;
  2. Cut back/away any vegetation from the buildings and structures. Not only will this harbour rodents it can also give them access into higher areas such as gutters on a building;
  3. Cut down on any exposed food sources – minimise the use of bird feeders, keep bins and compost bins sealed and contained, any food or pet food in store always make sure they are in sealed containers and off the floor.

 See pictures below of examples of areas that need attention.
