Fruit Fly Facts

Fruit Flies cause issues with the contamination of food and can spread illnesses;

Fruit flies are generally produced by easily accessible fermenting foods and stagnant water/liquid sources;

They like rotting fruits and vegetables as these are ideal conditions for them to reproduce and lay their eggs;

They can get through the smallest cracks and crevices and can also infest in bins;

When you discover fruit flies it is important to conduct a deep clean of the area to eliminate the ideal conditions they have otherwise, you will never get rid of them;

Once the areas have been cleaned, you can administer a spray insecticide as these are great knockdown products. Millennium Pest Control offer a variety of products in store online. The Insectaclaer Strong and Eradisect are great products.

Cluster Flies

Cluster Flies grouping near Loft Beams

Spring has sprung upon us early! From the freezing temperatures at the start of February and the snow, we have suddenly found ourselves in temperatures of 15-16 degrees C. This has appeared to have a slight effect on insects and we have begun getting calls about Cluster Flies. While typically we do not usually find ourselves treating for these until mid-March to April, we are finding more and more people are getting an issue with them. Millennium Pest Control Ltd do offer Cluster Fly treatments in the Ipswich, Norwich, Cambridge, Kings Lynn, North Norfolk, and Woodbridge areas.

Cluster Flies Dead on a Windowsill

Cluster flies will typically hibernate in a structures wall cavity and loft space throughout the winter and will come out during the spring and they will exit during the summer months. We often find that we return to properties if not annually, at least twice a year to treat as they can be very persistent and it is impossible to proof against them as they are so small in stature.  They leave a pheromone behind which they follow once the autumn sets in so that they can re enter to hibernate through winter. They are more of a nuisance pest due to the vast numbers people find them in. The good news is that they are not harmful and will not carry the nasty germs a typical house fly or blue bottle will carry.

Cluster Flies in the Attic Space

We can simply fog lofts or accessible wall cavities for these cluster flies and we would also administer an insecticide to the top south west windows where they usually reside. If you believe you may have an issue with Cluster Flies please do not hesitate contacting us on 01379 890777 or email us at : enquiries@millenniumpestcontrol.co.uk now!

Cluster Fly Treatments in Ipswich, Norwich, Cambridge, Kings Lynn, and Bury St Edmunds

Cluster Fly Treatments

At this time of year Millennium Pest Control Ltd are beginning to conduct Cluster Fly treatments in the Ipswich, Norwich, Cambridge, Kings Lynn, and Bury St Edmunds areas. Cluster flies begin to enter homes in the late summer early autumn as it is their time to begin hibernation.  It is not uncommon to see large amounts of flies on any walls that face south west as they want to feel the warmth of the area. Once they do enter, you will usually find them in areas such as loft spaces and wall cavities. You will often see them around top level windows as well as they can enter further through light fittings and cracks and crevices.

Millennium Pest Control Ltd will often treat properties for Cluster flies in Ipswich, Norwich, Cambridge, Kings Lynn, and Bury St Edmunds areas in the autumn and spring times for consecutive years as it usually takes a while to break their cycle. After the winter they will mate and then bury their eggs into earthworms externally in the summer. They will not venture too far from the property they have hibernated in.  Larvae will hatch from the eggs they will then pupae and mature fully.

Cluster flies are not considered to be a health hazard like other flies however; they can still be a nuisance as they can swarm inside and outside of your home. Skilled technicians will treat the loft space areas and around any windows and their frames. It is important that for day’s even weeks after that a regular hoovering of the fly bodies is done. It may then be an idea to seal up any cracks or crevices that they may have been entering your home.
