Cat and Dog Fleas are the most common fleas in the UK right now and they cause a lot of distress in properties across East Anglia.
Although it is rare to get flea bites on humans its can still happen and they can pose a health risk although, due to the general high standard of hygiene and vaccinations in this country it is rare.
Adult fleas usually live on pets and lay their eggs with their coats. When an animal scratches and shakes about these eggs will then live in the carpets and cracks and crevices of a building. Once, they get to the larvae stage in their life cycle you will generally find them on floors and in crevices of buildings.
Fleas can live outside as they are commonly associated with other wildlife such as; Hedgehogs, rodents, squirrels and foxes.
You will often find them in; high grass, sands, sheds and areas of high shade.
Many Flea pupae and larvae are now resistant to many pesticides so it is VITAL that when a treatment is conducted that regular hoovering is done to remove any left-over eggs that have unhatched. You must also always dispose of the contents externally so they do not re infest into the property.
