Cluster Flies

Cluster Flies grouping near Loft Beams

Spring has sprung upon us early! From the freezing temperatures at the start of February and the snow, we have suddenly found ourselves in temperatures of 15-16 degrees C. This has appeared to have a slight effect on insects and we have begun getting calls about Cluster Flies. While typically we do not usually find ourselves treating for these until mid-March to April, we are finding more and more people are getting an issue with them. Millennium Pest Control Ltd do offer Cluster Fly treatments in the Ipswich, Norwich, Cambridge, Kings Lynn, North Norfolk, and Woodbridge areas.

Cluster Flies Dead on a Windowsill

Cluster flies will typically hibernate in a structures wall cavity and loft space throughout the winter and will come out during the spring and they will exit during the summer months. We often find that we return to properties if not annually, at least twice a year to treat as they can be very persistent and it is impossible to proof against them as they are so small in stature.  They leave a pheromone behind which they follow once the autumn sets in so that they can re enter to hibernate through winter. They are more of a nuisance pest due to the vast numbers people find them in. The good news is that they are not harmful and will not carry the nasty germs a typical house fly or blue bottle will carry.

Cluster Flies in the Attic Space

We can simply fog lofts or accessible wall cavities for these cluster flies and we would also administer an insecticide to the top south west windows where they usually reside.
