Bubonic Plague

The Bubonic Plague or The Black Death swept through out Europe, being at its most prevalent between 1346 and 1353.

An extremely fatal disease which particularly took hold of London. As science and medical research has evolved we now know that the disease known as Y. Pestis Virus was carried via the Fleas on the vast amount of Rats that roamed the streets at the time.

Hygiene was also an issue during that era which added to the speed of the infection. Large volumes of food and human waste littered the crowded streets, a haven for the infected Rats and breeding ground for germs and disease.

The virus is still around today however we are fortunate that due to modern medicines it is rare and mortality rate is incredibly low in comparison to the past.

Rats are well known for the abundance of diseases that they can carry. Leptospirosis, Weils Disease and Hanativirus being a few. There are several ways of contracting the diseases from Rats - coming into direct contact with the rodents, their faeces and urine, bites or scratches and ingesting contaminated food or drink.

Ensuring complete eradication of the Rats and thorough proofing is essential to ensure complete protection from infection. Millennium Pest Control can assist with all stages of the eradication process, from treatment to proofing and even disinfection of the infected areas once eradication is complete.
